The Elbe as a backdrop, or controlled light in a Hamburg-Altona studio? This guide compares outdoor and studio sessions, introduces six places in Hamburg, and covers preparation, the process, and prices.
What is an outdoor photo session?
An outdoor photo session takes place outside the studio, at an outdoor location and in natural light—at the Speicherstadt, in the Stadtpark, or on the shores of the Alster, for example. At BEAUTYSHOTS Hamburg, outdoor sessions run through our outdoor packages: Basic at €199 and Superior at €299. Check the current package details for the included group size and any additional-person charge.
Studio or outdoor: an honest comparison
Studio and outdoor sessions differ mainly in light, privacy, and how much of a vote the weather gets—neither is automatically better, and each offers a different setting. Here’s what actually matters:
- Weather and season: the studio is independent of rain, wind, and temperature; outside, the season and the time of day shape the result.
- Light: in the studio we control every light source—consistent, at any hour; outside we work with natural light, at its best during golden hour.
- Privacy: the studio offers a private, exclusive atmosphere; outside you’re usually in public.
- Outfit changes: in the studio you switch looks in the changing room; outside you’ll want two or three outfits that suit the location.
- Make-up: professional make-up is included in most studio categories—hairstyling is not. The outdoor packages don’t include make-up.
- Backdrop: outdoor sessions deliver authentic Hamburg scenery from the Speicherstadt to the Alster; in the studio, the person is the subject, free of distractions.
The two settings have different qualities: a studio session is weather-independent and takes place in a private, exclusive atmosphere, while an outdoor session puts the city in the frame. Consider which setting suits the images you have in mind.
Outdoor or studio: which is right for a couples photo session?
The studio is weather-independent and offers a private, exclusive atmosphere. Outdoors, the city becomes part of the setting. Couples can choose the setting that best suits the images they have in mind; make-up for one person is included in studio couples and best-friends sessions.
The most beautiful outdoor locations in Hamburg
Six well-known places offer varied backdrops for outdoor photo sessions: the Speicherstadt, the Elbphilharmonie Plaza, the Landungsbrücken and St. Pauli, the Stadtpark, Planten un Blomen, and the Outer Alster. They range from historic architecture to green spaces and waterside views.
Speicherstadt
Brick buildings, canals, and bridges define the Speicherstadt’s historic setting. It is an option when you want architecture and water in the frame.
Elbphilharmonie Plaza
The Elbphilharmonie Plaza combines modern architecture with views of the harbor. The public plaza gives photos an urban setting.
Landungsbrücken and St. Pauli
The Landungsbrücken and St. Pauli bring ships, harbor views, and city life into the background.
Stadtpark
The Stadtpark offers lawns and trees for a green outdoor setting.
Planten un Blomen
The gardens, ponds, and water features at Planten un Blomen add greenery and water to an urban setting.
Outer Alster
The Outer Alster pairs waterside paths with views of the city skyline.
Golden October: why fall rewards an outdoor photo session
In autumn, changing light and foliage add different colors to outdoor pictures. The Stadtpark and Planten un Blomen offer leafy settings, while the Elbe and the Outer Alster keep the focus on water and city views. The right choice depends on the look you want.
For cooler days, layers can make it easier to adapt to changing temperatures. Our outfit guide has more ideas. If you prefer a setting independent of the weather, the studio is an alternative.
How your appointment works—indoors and out
Regular sessions at BEAUTYSHOTS Hamburg are booked slot-first: you pick a free appointment in our online calendar and pay right there—done. Bachelorette and group sessions—that includes the outdoor packages—are inquiry-only: you send us a few preferred dates and your group size, and we answer within one business day. Once a date is confirmed, a 20% deposit secures the appointment; the rest is paid after the session at the studio, based on how many people actually come.
Appointments are usually available Monday to Saturday; occasional Sunday appointments may also appear. They start between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM; the latest start is 6:00 PM. The time you pick in the booking calendar is when your appointment starts—not a time window. Plan on about 2 hours from that start if your session includes make-up: roughly 30 minutes of make-up, about an hour of shooting, and roughly 30 minutes to pick your photos. Without make-up, Portrait, Business, and CV photo sessions take about 1.5 hours. The outdoor Superior package includes 1–2 hours of pure shooting time outside; families plan on about 2 hours, a bit more with small children.
After the session you choose your images with us—right then, right there. Each session produces 80–100 frames. All images are delivered digitally in full resolution: choose with us in the studio and your photos are ready as soon as your appointment ends, and prints you order go home with you immediately—we print them in the studio on a high-quality photo printer. Through the online gallery, your photos arrive within a week.
We keep your photos for four weeks after your session—longer only if you explicitly ask, until a date you choose. And if you’re weighing a bachelorette or group outdoor session: it runs like any other appointment, just with the city in the background instead of our studio backdrops.
Preparation: outfits, shoes, and a weather check
For an outdoor or studio session, think about your outfits, shoes, and the weather. Here are a few practical points to consider:
- Choose outfits that suit the setting and the look you have in mind.
- Bring your own outfits; clothing is not provided. The studio has a changing room for switching looks.
- For outdoor locations, comfortable shoes can help when walking between spots.
- For cooler outdoor dates, consider layers so you can adapt to the temperature.
- Please arrive right at your booked time—not earlier, and not much later. Your booked time is when your appointment starts.
Do you provide clothing?
No—we provide no clothing. Outfits, accessories, and shoes are your own. What you can expect from us is the professional make-up included in most studio categories, and the changing room where you can switch between your looks.
What if my session does not include make-up?
If make-up is included in your session, please arrive without make-up. For sessions without included make-up, you can do your make-up as usual.
Which shoes should I wear?
Shoes you can walk in, especially outdoors—sessions move between spots, and Hamburg’s cobblestones don’t forgive stilettos. Bring statement heels in a bag and put them on just before the frame. In the studio, whatever completes the outfit is right.
What does an outdoor or studio photo session in Hamburg cost?
An outdoor photo session at BEAUTYSHOTS Hamburg runs through two packages: Basic at €199 and Superior at €299. Check the current package details for the included group size and the charge for any additional attendees. The pricing structure is the same for bachelorette, friends, team, and club groups. Group and bachelorette sessions are booked by inquiry: preferred dates and group size, answered within one business day.
- Outdoor packages (bachelorette parties and any group): Basic at €199, Superior at €299, each for up to six people, €15 per additional person
- Themed studio categories: Beauty, Real Man, Couples, Best Friends, Family, Nude/Erotic, Maternity, and Model/Sedcard at €79
- Portrait: €59, no make-up
- CV photos: €49, no make-up
- Business: €149 per person, commercial usage rights included, no make-up
- Make-up add-on: €25 per person where it is not included; additional people in JGA packages can add make-up for €25 each
What do individual photos cost?
Every session includes at least one fully edited digital image in full resolution. Beyond that, additional images are optional—chosen after the session, with no obligation to buy. Photo packages run from Copper (five images, €100) to Diamond (every image, €379). Where a studio category doesn’t include make-up, you can add it for €25 per person.
What’s included in a photo session?
Professional make-up is included in most studio categories—hairstyling never is. You get a private, exclusive atmosphere rather than a production line, 80–100 frames per session, at least one fully edited digital image, and the freedom to choose more afterward without any pressure.
One honest note on the outdoor packages: make-up is not included, but additional attendees can add it for €25 per person. If you want both—the city as your backdrop and professional make-up, ask about the add-on when you enquire, or book a studio session for the polished close-ups and plan the outdoor date for the wide, atmospheric frames.

Do you only photograph experienced models?
No. You do not need prior experience. The photographer guides you through the poses and gives you direction during the session.
