The first weeks with a new baby pass faster than anyone warns you. One day those tiny curled fingers and milk-drunk smiles are right in front of you, and the next they're gone. A baby photo session keeps them.
A baby photo session is a professional studio session that captures your child in their first months and milestones. At BEAUTYSHOTS Hamburg it takes place in our private studio in Hamburg-Altona (Beerenweg 1E), starts at €79, and includes at least one fully edited digital image in full resolution. We've photographed more than 25,000 customers over 20+ years, and we're open seven days a week so a session can fit around nap and feeding times rather than fighting them.
What a baby photo session is – and the two main types
There are two distinct kinds of baby photos, and they suit very different moments in your child's first year. Knowing the difference helps you pick the right time to book.
A newborn session focuses on the very first days of life. Babies are still sleepy, curl naturally into womb-like poses, and the images lean quiet, soft and intimate – tiny details like eyelashes, toes and hands. A baby photo session during the first year captures later stages: a baby who can hold their head up, sit, laugh and react. These photos are brighter and more playful, full of personality and eye contact. Both produce beautiful baby photos – they simply tell different chapters of the same story.
Best age and timing for a baby session
The ideal age depends on the look you want. For classic sleepy newborn portraits, the sweet spot is the first 5–14 days, when babies still settle into soft, rounded poses. If you'd rather capture an alert, smiling baby, the sitting stage at around 6–9 months is hard to beat – your child can hold themselves up, engage with the camera and show real character.
Timing the day matters as much as the age. Babies run on their own schedule, and a fed, well-rested baby photographs far more happily than an overtired one. Because we're open seven days a week from 10:00–18:00, we can place your slot at the calm point in your child's rhythm rather than asking you to bend their day around ours. You can choose your slot online and pick whatever fits.
How a baby photo session works, step by step
Booking and shooting are designed to be simple, so you can focus on your baby rather than logistics. Here's the full process from start to finish.
- Choose your session and a free slot online, then pay the flat session fee of €79 securely – Klarna, PayPal, SEPA or card all work.
- Receive your voucher and confirmation by email straight away.
- Arrive at our private studio in Hamburg-Altona, where it's warm, quiet and set up before you get there.
- Settle in. We take the time your baby needs – there's no rush and no production line.
- Shoot for 30–60 minutes, with our photographer guiding every pose and setup so you never have to wonder what to do.
- Review the images together on screen right after the session and choose your favourites.
- Get your photos delivered digitally in full resolution – at least one fully edited image is always included.
There's no obligation to buy anything beyond the session fee. You only pick additional images if you fall in love with them, and you decide that after the session, never before.
Safety, privacy and patience
With babies, the baby sets the pace – always. If your child needs a break to feed, be changed or simply be held, we stop and wait. A relaxed, unhurried session is also a safer one, and it produces far better baby photos than any attempt to push through tears.
Our studio is a private, closed space – no walk-in traffic, no audience, just your family and our team. Nothing is ever published without your written consent. And we don't work in volume: this isn't 1,000 frames rapid-fired and sorted later. Every image is composed individually, with attention to light, pose and the small details that make your baby yours. Parents are encouraged to be part of it the whole way through, whether that means soothing, holding or simply being in frame.
How to prepare: a short checklist for parents
A little preparation makes the day smoother for everyone, especially your baby. None of it is complicated.
- Time a feed and, if possible, a nap shortly before the appointment so your baby arrives content.
- Pack a change of clothes and a few extra cloths or muslins – small accidents are part of baby life.
- Bring a favourite cuddly toy or a keepsake you'd like in the photos.
- Dress your baby (and anyone joining) in plain, solid colours rather than busy patterns – they keep the focus on faces. Our guides and outfit tips can help if you're unsure.
- Don't worry about the temperature – the studio is kept warm for bare little arms and legs.
- Consider including siblings or both parents for a few frames; many baby sessions naturally turn into a family moment.
If you'd like the whole family in the picture, a baby session pairs perfectly with a broader family session – more on how that works in our family photo session guide.

Frequently asked questions
What does a baby photo session cost?
A baby photo session at BEAUTYSHOTS Hamburg starts at €79. The session fee includes studio time, a photographer guiding the session, and at least one fully edited digital image in full resolution. Any additional images or packages are optional and chosen after the session, so you never commit to more than you want.
From what age should I book a baby session?
For classic newborn portraits, the first 5–14 days of life are ideal, while babies still sleep deeply and curl naturally. For a more interactive baby photo session, the sitting stage at around 6–9 months works beautifully. There's no wrong age – every stage of the first year is worth photographing.
What's included in the session fee?
The €79 session fee covers the studio session in Hamburg-Altona, a professional photographer guiding every pose, and at least one fully edited digital image delivered in full resolution. Make-up for parents joining the photos can be added on request. There is no obligation to buy additional images.
What should I bring to a baby photo session?
Bring a change of clothes, a few cloths or muslins, and a favourite cuddly toy or keepsake if you'd like it in the photos. Plain, solid-coloured outfits photograph best. It also helps to time a feed and a nap before the appointment so your baby arrives calm and content.
Can siblings or parents be in the photos?
Yes. Parents and siblings are welcome in the frame, and many baby sessions naturally become a small family session. If you'd like a fuller family set, a baby session pairs well with our family session. Parents are also encouraged to stay close throughout to soothe and hold the baby.
How long does a baby session take?
A baby photo session at BEAUTYSHOTS Hamburg usually lasts 30–60 minutes, plus time afterward to review the images together and choose your favourites. We let the baby set the pace, so if breaks are needed for feeding or settling, we simply build them into the session.
